I’m having trouble with Acuvue Oasys, has anyone switched to a different contact with better results?

acuvue oasys contact
I just got Oasys prescribed after wearing Advance for about two years. I have dry eye which is making wearing contacts very difficult for me. At first, when I put in the Oasys, they felt like heaven. I had no redness in my eyes, and they stayed wet for about eight hours. After four days, my eyes are red again, the contacts get dry pretty early in the day, and it’s like I’m wearing the Advance again. I was wondering if anyone had similar problems like I am having with Oasys, and if they switched to a different contact, did that help or fix the problem? Any sucess stories would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, I would take a look at your solution first. Multi-purpose solutions have a lot of different preservatives that can irritate your eyes, and that’s what this sounds like (almost textbook). I would recommend a hydrogen peroxide based solution (Clear Care, AOSept) first to see if that eliminates the problem. Your optometrist should be able to hook you up with a free sample before you buy.

If that doesn’t work, ask your doctor about Biofinity. They are a new contact lens that I’ve had a lot of luck with; especially for dry eye patients.

Of note: When using hydrogen peroxide solutions, make sure you neutralize the solution overnight before instilling the liquid in your eyes!

I agree with Eyedoc, try changing out solutions to Clear Care. If it doesnt help, then f/u with your doctor again. And just make sure you have back up glasses, you may need to give your eyes a break from contacts for a few days. Good Luck!
